Apple and Cinnamon Crumble

Apple crumble is the dessert you make when the fruit bowl is getting away on you. Toss the apples with lemon and a little sugar, then rub cold butter through the flour and oats until it looks like coarse breadcrumbs. Serve it hot with custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Makes 7 servings

  • 843g Apples
  • 190g Plain flour
  • 105g Rolled oats
  • 127g Butter
  • 127g Brown sugar
  • 8g Cinnamon
  • 21ml Lemon juice

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Peel, core and slice apples. Toss with lemon juice, a tablespoon of the brown sugar and half the cinnamon, then arrange in a greased baking dish.
  2. Rub cold butter into flour, oats, remaining brown sugar and cinnamon until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  3. Scatter crumble evenly over the apples and press down lightly.
  4. Bake 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbling. Serve warm with custard or ice cream.
